In Social Studies, we teach map and geography skills. We cover where we live, our earth, our country today and long ago. We also cover people and places in history.
In Science, we cover physical, life, and Earth Science. Some topics include, matter and energy, magnets, the sun, and plants and animals.
In religion, we prepare the children for First Reconciliation and Communion. Some topics include the Seven Sacraments, Ten Commandments, and the Order of Mass.
In reading, we have a different genre a month. We read a different novel to go with each genre. Some genre includes science fiction, biographies, and mysteries!
In math, the topics we cover are addition and subtraction to 20, place value, money, two & three digit addition and subtraction, time, data/graphs, measurement, geometry, fractions, and an introduction to multiplication/division.
In language, we cover subjects, predicates, proper nouns, plural nouns, possessives, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, contractions, and quotations. We also focus on phonics and poetry each book. We end the year, with a Bare Book that each child writes and illustrates.
Religion: we cover the Apostle’s Creed, Sacraments, four marks of the Church, parts of the Mass, commandments, and Works of Mercy.
Reading: we cover realism and fantasy, compare and contrast, main idea, theme, plot, vocabulary, word structure (prefixes and suffixes).
Math: We cover addition and subtraction of 3 and 4-digit numbers, multiplication and division of 2-digit numbers, measurement, geometry, fractions, decimals, whole and mixed numbers.
Science: We cover plants and animals, weather, water cycle, rocks and minerals, landforms, phases of the moon, simple machines, mass and matter.
Social Studies: We cover communities and how they are formed and change over time, local and U.S. government, historic figures.
English: We cover nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, punctuation, sentences, and paragraphs
