100 Days Brighter
We have been in first grade for 100 days! Take a look at how we celebrated being 100 days brighter!
On Thursday, the “Know-It-Alls” came to celebrate Catholic Schools Week. First grade got to show how bright they’ve become these past 100 days.
Book of the Week
We recently learned about different kinds of poems. To build reading fluency, first grade has been practicing a poem every week. We performed our first two poems for Pre-School. Our most recent poem, we sang as a song for Mrs. Rasinski.
Words of the Week
Spelling Unit 3, Week 5
On Thursday, students took their spelling pre-test to determine their list of spelling words for Unit 3, Week 5 of spelling. Each child will bring home his or her list on Monday to practice during the week. Students will either practice words on the pink list OR the white list. Please leave the list on the ‘Right Back to School’ side of the home folder so they are easily accessible for practice daily. We will take our spelling test on Friday, February 9.
The focus for this week will be on adding r controlled vowels (bossy r).

Meet Your Teacher
Welcome to 1-2!
Hello! My name is Miss Grengs and I am so excited to be back for my second year at St. Mary. I was born and raised in Westchester and was blessed to attend Catholic schools from Pre-School though 12th grade. I graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL with a B.A. in Elementary Education. I have
also volunteered as a Religious Education catechist and I have coached 6th and 7th grade and U11 club girls volleyball. In my spare time, I love shopping, spending time with family and friends, and cheering for the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Blackhawks.
I love being a part of St. Mary and I look forward to what this year will bring!
