Looking to the Sky
In Science, we looked toward the sky to observe what we see during the day and night. Later in the week, we focused on the sun and the Earth’s rotation. We modeled the earth and sun and experimented with how shadows change with the sun in different positions. We then modeled the earth rotating to create our day, year, and seasons.
Words of the Week
Spelling Unit 5, Week 1
On Friday, students took their spelling pre-test to determine their list of spelling words for Unit 5, Week 1 of spelling. Each child will bring home his or her list on Monday to practice during the week. Students will either practice words on the brown list OR the teal list. Please leave the list on the ‘Right Back to School’ side of the home folder so it is easily accessible for practice daily. I strongly encourage you to practice the spelling words with your child every night. We will take our spelling test on Thursday, April 6.
The focus for this week will be on the ow sound.

Meet Your Teacher
Hello! My name is Miss Grengs and I am so excited to be joining the St. Mary’s community this year. I was born and raised in Westchester and was blessed to attend Catholic schools from Pre-School though 12th grade. I graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL with a B.A. in Elementary Education. I have
also volunteered as a Religious Education catechist and I have coached 6th and 7th grade girls volleyball. In my spare time, I love shopping, spending time with family and friends, and cheering for the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Blackhawks.
I am already loving St. Mary’s and I look forward to what this year will bring!
Our Lady of the Rosary Mass
This Wednesday, we will celebrate our second All School Mass. Our first graders will be participating in Mass, along with the third graders. We invite you to come celebrate Our Lady of the Rosary with us all!
