Our main purpose for holding suppers at Cooke’s Manor is to provide a home-cooked meal to the veterans in rehab at Cooke’s Manor on the Hines VA campus. Our wonderful cooks, bakers, servers and helpers prepare the food at home, and bring everything to Cooke’s Manor ready to serve supper at 5:00 p.m. After all the veterans are served, many of us will get some food, and sit down with the vets and talk with them and listen to them. They all have their own stories, and want to share with someone. We are finished by 6:00 p.m., and the veterans do the clean up.
Suppers are scheduled for the third Sunday of each month. Besides individuals who sign up for items to make or bring, families like to bring their children to help serve and visit with the veterans. We don’t know who gets more out of the suppers, we for providing a meal, or the men who are so very appreciative of the food and camaraderie.
