It is hard to deny that our country is very divided these days. The issues of race, immigration, patriotism, the meaning of work and the desire to make an honest living has put people at odds against one another. Our faith in Jesus demands that we respect all people. Broad generalizations, racial and cultural biases that bring about hatred and division have no place in our Christian community. It’s not about political correctness, it’s about justice and the belief that we are all made in God’s image and likeness.
Let us pray and work for peace and reconciliation…
Come, O Holy Spirit
Come, open us to the wonder, beauty, and dignity of the diversity found in each culture, in each face, and in each experience we have of the other among us.
Come fill us with generosity as we are challenged to let go and allow others to share with us the goods and beauty of the earth.
Come heal the divisions that keep us from seeing the face of Christ in all men, women, and children.
Come free us to stand with and for those who must leave their own lands in order to find work, security, and welcome in a new land, one that has enough to share.
